This project includes two 40-storey towers between de la Montagne and Drummond streets. The project also includes five floors of underground parking with two accesses, one on Drummond Street and the second on René-Lévesque Boulevard. The two towers are connected by a two-storey podium that accommodates shops.
This project was completed in a high-density urban environment with three other large-scale construction sites nearby, thus representing a real challenge. Each tower’s central concrete core is connected to the outer columns at three different levels, thereby resolving the problem of vibrations and displacements due to wind forces (“outrigger” system). Post-tensioned beams with a span of 18 metres were used to support the pool to keep their height to a minimum while controlling the deformation and cracking of the pool.
For this project, NCK provided complete structural engineering consulting services.
