Located at 2011 St. Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, this seven-storey building was built in 1894 for the Eckers Brewery. This project involved renovating and refurbishing the building, for the benefit of the 7 doigts de la main, that occupies creative studios and offices there. The building’s renovation respected its historical characteristics, maintaining the original materials that are displayed in the interior spaces.
The requirements associated with the building’s new purpose rendered complex structural interventions necessary. In particular, the project included training and performance rooms on the first and second floors, measuring 23 m by 16 m with a column spacing of 3 m. The trusses supporting these floors are 2.5 m high and can support scenery loads. The ground floor is equipped with a technical bridge as well as hanging systems with a capacity of 5 tonnes. The roof, completed with 1 metre high trusses, can support scenery loads.
For this project, NCK provided complete structural engineering consulting services.
