The J23-type duplexes are social housing units consisting of two semi-detached units. To this end, Makivik Corporation, the project’s promoter, builds homes adapted to the needs and constraints of Québec’s Far North.
The base structure is made up of a galvanized steel frame that rests on insulated reinforced concrete footings. The structure of the floor and of the roof is made of wood.
This duplex model has been replicated in many northern villages in Québec, including Kuujjuarapik, Kuujjuaq, Salluit, Puvirnituq and Inukjuak. The pictures on this page are from Salluit.
For these projects, NCK provided structural engineering consulting services, including complete structural design, as well as some monitoring services in Nunavik.
