With the objective of improving living conditions in the communities of Nunavik, Makivik Corporation builds homes adapted to the needs and constraints of the Far North. The M4 houses can comfortably accommodate four families in as many apartments.
The base structure is made up of a galvanized steel frame that rests on insulated reinforced concrete footings. The upper structure is made of wood. Certain portions of the structure are specially designed to support higher loads, including mechanical equipment as well as wastewater and drinking water tanks.
With construction starting in 2014, this quadruplex model has been replicated in many northern Québec communities, including Kuujjuarapik, Kuujjuaq, Salluit, Puvirnituq, Inukjuak and Umiujaq. The photos on this page are from Salluit and Kuujjuaq.
