The Marc-Favreau Library is located on the site of the former municipal workshops in La Petite-Patrie. Its new construction integrates an existing building from the 1930s. The transparency of the extension’s curtain wall blends with the existing opaque traditional masonry facade creating a modern building that blends seamlessly into its urban setting.

The structure of the new building is made of steel for the main elements and wood for the roof decking. The existing building has been rehabilitated, notably by removing the terracotta partitions and a general re-pointing of the brick facades. In addition, a seismic rehabilitation by introducing new shotcrete walls was carried out.

For this “estradinaire” building, in the words of the character Sol (Marc Favreau), NCK provided all of the structural and civil engineering consulting services.
